KLM Flight Academy is a Dutch flying school and a 100% subsidiary of KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines. The flight school is located at Groningen Airport Eelde. It is the successor of the Rijksluchtvaartschool (RLS) en de KLM Luchtvaartschool (KLS).
KLM Flight Academy trains students to become top class pilots in the commercial airlines business. It does so by means of a practice oriented curriculum which includes training in the US with the most modern training facilities.
KLM Flight Academy started offering flight training in 1946. The program was initially funded by the government because KLM director Albert Plesman managed to convince politics of the importance of flight safety, which was a government responsibility. Nowadays, KLM flight academy is a private school and the program no longer receives funding. Students are entitled to some government benefits though.
