Program description

The Train the Trainers course will reinforce the capacity of trainers, training organisers and/or educators working in the media sector to organise, design and develop more effective and efficient training solutions

Worldwide, the media industry is undergoing radical change. The pace of technological innovation, the rise of new media and increased competition are making new demands on and posing new challenges to trainers and educators working in or for the media sector. The course Training the Trainers strengthens the capacity of broadcast and new media trainers and educators to (re)design and deliver their training activities to meet the challenges of today’s rapidly changing media industry.

Objectives
The course will reinforce the knowledge, skills and attitudes trainers, training organisers and/or educators need to organise, design and develop more effective and efficient training solutions for their organisation. Participants will become familiar with how to formulate the contribution training can make to organisational development as well as to improve staff performance. Key concepts in training and education, such as learning objectives, (adult) learning styles, teaching methods, lifelong learning and the learning organisation will be analysed and explored. Participants will be taught various techniques for targeting and assessing specific learners and learning needs, and for formulating appropriate learning objectives. For their final assignments participants will design and practice delivering new and achievable training activities as well as focus on how to ‘sell’ these and apply them as part of a back home action plan.

Subjects
Theories and practical approaches to ensure effective learning; methods for training delivery, traditional and innovative including coaching, mentoring and computer/network-facilitated learning; translating appropriate training objectives into practical training activities that suit the individual learner; developing training solutions relevant to their own organisation (Back Home Action Plan).
