Program description

This course introduces participants to the basic concepts and operational skills necessary to acquire the most appropriate remote sensing data and extract geo-information from such data.

This course introduces you to the basic concepts and operational skills necessary to acquire the most appropriate remote sensing data and extract geo-information from such data. The objective is to create a firm basis for the successful integration of remote sensing in any field of application. In addition, participants can choose three topics of personal interest to deepen their knowledge.

The course is useful to novices in the realm of remote sensing, as well as to those experienced in some aspects but lacking a complete overview of the state of the art and/or the conceptual foundation.

You will acquire a good basis that will facilitate the efficient selection of remote sensing data, the careful consideration of required preprocessing, and the optimal analysis of image data for purposes of obtaining necessary geo-information. The knowledge gained through study and communication with tutors and fellow participants will stimulate your appreciation of existing applications of remote sensing data in geospatial studies and will enable you to assess new applications.

Objectives
The course gives insight into applications of RS data in geospatial studies and it gives a good basis for proper selection of RS data, required preprocessing and optimal analysis of image data.

Instruction modes
Distance course. Self-study combined with intensive online support from ITC lecturers. Task-based learning that blends theory and practice. Study load is 16-24 hours per week. Materials and software provided both online and on CD Rom.

Curriculum
Electromagnetic Energy and RS; Sensors and Systems; Pre-processing Corrections; Visualization, interpretation and digital image classification. Participants can tailor the contents to their own personal interest by selecting two advanced topics.
