Program description

The University of Twente has been offering international training workshops on energy and environment since 1983. Since 2005 the focus has been on proposal writing and financing schemes for projects related to energy, environment and climate change which could be submitted under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). For this reason the course has been jointly organised with the UNEP Risoe Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development (URC).

The aim of the course is to develop participants’ skills in writing fundable proposals in the field of energy, environment and climate change based on CDM rules and procedures. In this way, the participants can contribute to the sustainable development of their countries. Participants will be able to complete a business plan for a clean energy project to be approved by a bank/investor/donor.

The course includes lectures, assignments, case studies, discussions, demonstrations, and site visits. Course material is available electronically. As part of preparation for participation in the course, all participants are required to complete, before the course begins, a short on-line course on the causes and effects of climate change. Every participant has to work on a real life proposal during the course. The whole proposal will be presented and discussed with feedback on possible areas for improvement. A strength of the course is the interactive approach between participants and staff. A social program will also be arranged. The working language of the course is English

Target Audience
People whose function is related to energy, environment and climate change. Participants with different backgrounds will be admitted, such as: entrepreneurs, consultants, project developers, government officers in departments of energy or environment, policy advisors, staff of utility companies and staff of NGOs.
