Program description

This course aims to provide management capabilities in availability and acquisition of energy and the modes of energy supply for SMI, efficient use of energy in SMI and energy conservation measures, reduction of emissions caused by industrial processes, policy options and strategies for energy conservation in SMI.

Since 1987, the University of Twente has been offering training courses on energy management and cleaner production in small and medium scale industries (SMI). Energy management is a central component to improving the energy efficiency of an industry or an industrial plant. During the course, all aspects of modern (energy) management will be discussed. Another focus is on technical and economic aspects of more efficient energy use and cleaner production. Participants have the opportunity to carry out an energy audit. From 2012, the course has been extended by a week to include a module on preparing for the ISO standard on Energy Management.

The long term objectives are to provide the participants with management capabilities for SMI in emerging economies with respect to: • The availability and acquisition of energy, and the modes of energy supply • The efficient use of energy in SMI, and energy conservation measures • The reduction of emissions caused by industrial processes • Policy options and strategies for energy conservation and cleaner production in SMI
