In total, 6 months of this 18-months programme will consist of courses in epidemiology, statistics, study design, animal health economics and scientific writing, as well as practical training in statistical analyses and computer statistical programmes. The other 12 months will be spent on a research project applying a variety of epidemiological and statistical methods. A research topic can be selected from within one of the research programmes of the Department of Farm Animal Health or in one of the other programmes of the Institute of Veterinary Research (IVR). Graduates of the programme are prepared for further PhD studies, or for veterinary research and disease control programmes, including application in developing countries.
