The programme trains students in conducting research into political institutions. Graduates are ready for further academic study and for research positions in the public or private sector.
At the core of this two-year programme is the analysis of political and government institutions. Their design and functioning as well as their evolution are studied together with their impact on attitudes, values and behaviour.
You will obtain knowledge and skills not only by being taught, but also through hands-on experience. You will learn about the ways in which a vague research interest is transformed into a theoretically informed puzzle with concrete hypotheses, how an appropriate research method is selected, what problems can be encountered in data collection and analysis, how the data can be interpreted to test the hypotheses, and how the results can be presented effectively.
Political Science Research complements the substantive and elementary research competencies acquired in the Bachelor’s programme with highlevel substantive and methodological insight, in order to train students in conducting research into political institutions and their designs, workings and implications. You will be able to follow a wide range of courses on Political Science topics such as: Legislative Behaviour, Political Parties and Particularism, Public Opinion and the Political Process, International Regimes and Institutions, and Comparative Federalism. In addition, courses on Institutions and Institutionalism, Philosophy and Science and Qualitative and Quantitative Methodology and specific research skills courses are offered.
