Program description

The Literature and Culture program provides indepth knowledge about the most recent cultural phenonema.

While studying Literature and Culture you will become acquainted with writers from different countries and eras. However, the programme encompasses more than just literature, with film, painting and music also coming up for discussion. The programme Literature and Culture focuses on the analysis and interpretation of literary texts in a theoretical and cultural context. 'Theoretical' refers to methodological reflection, literary theory and philosophy; 'cultural' alludes to cultural studies, cultural analysis and cultural theory. Greatly differing theories will help you specialise in the area of literary studies that you find most appealing.

Linking up with the bachelor, the programme Literature and Culture focuses on the analysis and interpretation of literary texts within a theoretical and cultural framework. The term ‘theoretical’ hereby refers to the processes of methodological reflection, literary theory and philosophy. ‘Cultural’ on the other hand refers to cultural studies, cultural analysis and cultural theory.

The theoretical and cultural points of reference dealt with during the bachelor phase are broadened and examined in a much more in-depth manner during the master programme. Reaffirming the cultural orientation of the programme, all courses are essentially interdisciplinary and intermedial in character. In order to successfully conclude each course, students are required to submit an essay. The same rule applies for the master programme itself, which can only be achieved upon successful completion of a master thesis.
