The course will thus give the student a deeper understanding of how to analyze the financial reports, and how to identify the “red flags” and “gold nuggets” of a company, including tax matters. The course "Advanced Financial Accounting" enables students to make a systematic comparison of the existing relationships between tax accounting and financial accounting. Moreover, it pays attention to issues relating to tax risk management.
International Business Tax Economics and Intra-Jursidictional Competition
Market failure affects an international firm's profitability, has important welfare consequences both domestically and internationally and gives rise to strategic behavior by economic actors.
From an international tax perspective, tax expenditure and fiscal protectionism by governments and tax planning strategies by multinational companies are key elements that may significantly contribute to these phenomena. This sub-track thus has a clear focus on intra-governmental competition. Next to the five core tax courses, this sub-track contains two mandatory tax-related courses: Public Economics and Taxation and Trade.
The course Public Economics deals with decision-making on and the effects of government expenditures and their financing instruments. The course also deals with the question why states want to join an economic union in the first place. The course Taxation and Trade takes as a starting point that goods, capital and labor markets are increasingly integrated. This course deals with the theoretical, empirical and policy aspects of tax interdependence with a focus on Europe, including the corporate income tax and the taxation of savings within the European Union.
