Increasingly, developers make use of mathematical models, advanced simulations, and sophisticated (computer) computations. With this program you can for example develop new and innovative technologies

You can specialize in three fields in the Master’s degree program in Industrial and Applied Mathematics. The Computational Science and Engineering track focuses primarily on technology, Discrete Mathematics and Applications involves the mathematics of our digital world, while the Statistics, Probability, and Operations Research track concentrates mainly on business processes.

As a graduate of the Master’s program in Industrial and Applied Mathematics, you will have gained a thorough knowledge of mathematical modeling. You will also have developed skills to tackle technological and industrial problems. For example, the analysis of large databases in communication and information technology, and the improvement of weather forecasts. Or models as used in telecommunications and physics, queuing theory or optimization. There is a great demand for graduates of this Master’s program, not only in the high-tech industry but also in other industrial fields and at (semi-) governmental agencies. You will be able to find employment as a researcher, consultant or developer.

Industrial and Applied Mathematics Specializations

Industrial and Applied Mathematics consists of three specializations, based on a common philosophy and program structure but with different mathematical contents and fields of applications. These specializations are: Computational Science and Engineering (CSE); Discrete Mathematics and Applications (DMA); Statistics, Probability and Operations Research (SPOR).

Computational Science and Engineering
You develop skills in the area of advanced and large-scale mathematical calculations. This allows you to analyze and simulate complex physical and technical processes. You gain insight into the processes in order to enhance their quality, but also to control these processes optimally.

Discrete Mathematics and Applications
You concentrate on subjects ranging from crystallographic grids to optimization of networks and chips and from computer algebra to cryptographic schedules.

Statistics, Probability and Operations Research
You focus on management problems such as organizational issues, planning and the optimization of business processes. You model and analyze phenomena in which coincidence is a factor and design the relevant algorithms.

Subjects
Industrial and Applied Mathematics consists of three specializations, based on a common philosophy and program structure but with different mathematical contents and fields of applications. Objectives
The program aims to train students to become professional applied mathematicians who are able to do research in a specific field of applied mathematics, depending on the specialization chosen; apply and develop mathematical methods and computational skills to solve industrial and engineering problems; communicate on an academic level in an industrial, social and multi-disciplinary environment.

Admission requirements

Previous education

BSc in mathematics, stochastics or in engineering with a mathematically-oriented programme.

Grade average

For admission a minimum of 75% CGPA. For entry to Talent Scholarship Program a minimum of 80% CGPA.
