Program description

A new MA for a globalised world! The MA Criminology prepares you with the theory and practical insights needed for a career in one of the many sectors focused on growing forms of global crime.

Global criminology is a fascinating multidisciplinary field with robust career potential. The MA Criminology puts you at the forefront of the research methods, critical thinking, and current issues of interest in this area, which bridges law and social sciences.

In this one-year programme you'll work in small, interactive courses with other international students and professors who are acclaimed experts in a wide range of disciplines (like cultural anthropology, human geography, and sociology). You gain a thorough understanding of contemporary global crime issues, crime policies, and crime control strategies, and the ability to conduct empirical research using such qualitative techniques as ethnography and open interviews. And the international focus and faculty of this programme opens up opportunities for internships, study trips, and research projects around the globe.

'I focused my thesis on elderly inmates in the Netherlands; interviewing a 78-year-old cocaine trafficker with a Zimmer-frame was one experience I am not likely to ever forget. Moreover, my research resulted in an article in a scientific journal. I recommend the programme.'- Andries Zoutendijk, alumnus.
