The Master's in Epidemiology (Postgraduate) focuses on biomedical research into the spread of disease in human and veterinary medicine. This 1.5 year postgraduate format is non-subsidised.
The Postgraduate format of the Master's in Epidemiology is designed for students with an existing Master's degree in (bio)medical or veterinary medicine. You acquire exensive knowledge and practical skills in epidemiologic research design and implementation, quantitative analysis and its application to human or veterinary medicine and public health. The knowledge and skills gained form a solid basis for health research and disease control programmes, including applications in developing countries.
This 18 month programme comprises such core theoretical courses as 'Study Design' and 'Modern Methods in Data Analysis.' You choose from five specialisations: Clinical Epidemiology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, Pharmacoepidemiology or Environmental & Occupational Epidemiology. The programme is completed with a major practical research project on a relevant topic, demonstrating your ability to critically evaluate hypotheses and results, present your own views and draw conclusions that point to new research. This Master's programme is not state funded, has a different tuition fee, and a different application procedure.
