The alumni from our MSc Course in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management (GEM) have all found relevant and exciting work opportunities in the application of spatial science and information within government, the private sector and NGOs.

Our MSc course has been selected for a second 5 year cycle of European Union funding support, allowing us to continue to offer prestigious scholarships to outstanding candidates from the EU, as well as non-EU countries. The GEM team hopes that you can find all the information you require about the opportunities offered by this course from EU universities in Iceland, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and UK, as well as our partner university in Australia.

Subjects
The Environmental Modeling and Management programme is divided into one foundation year (60 ECTS) and one year of specialization (60 ECTS). During the first year, the students have common foundation studies in geo-information (GIS) and earth observation (RS), as well as statistics, presentation skills and systems analysis related to environmental modelling and management, coordinated by the University Twente (The Netherlands) and Lund University (Sweden).

Objectives
On completion of the Environmental Modeling and Management program, you will have acquired the following skills:

  • Understanding of the scientific process and ability to undertake scientific research
  • Thorough awareness of European and global environmental problems and understanding of the complexity of factors involved
  • Understanding of geographical information management and ability to apply GIS, remote sensing and related tools. Familiarity with project and programme management
  • Leadership-, negotiation- and communication skills.

Previous education

First class or Upper Second (2.1) honours, BSc degree or equivalent from a recognized university in a discipline relate to the course.

Professional experience

Preferably combined with working experience in a relevant field (not compulsory).
