Program description

The Master's in Economics: Education and Communication leads to a full secondary school teaching qualification in the Netherlands. You gain theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience.

The Master's programme in Economics: Education and Communication is a collaboration between the Utrecht School of Economics (USE) and IVLOS. You gain a thorough education in economics, learning how to bring new knowledge and insights into a teaching environment. The programme combines theoretical knowledge and practical experience; for those who are interested, it is also possible to follow the Bilingual International Teacher Education Program (BITEP).

The first year of this two year teacher training programme, you choose from one of USE's Master Programmes: International Economics and Business; Economics and Geography; Economics and Law; Economics and Social Sciences; or Economics and History. The second year comprises a teacher training course at IVLOS, during which you learn about a variety of learning and teaching methodologies; a key element of this programme is the strong link between theory and practice, thus a large portion of the second year consists of teaching rounds at partner schools. You create a self-directed Personal Educational Plan, in the form of a digital portfolio, during the second year; this enables you to chart and review your progress.
