This programme combines Earth Science courses with one specialised year concentrating on management aspects, interdisciplinary skills and an internship in a company or (non) governmental organisation.

The curriculum combines one year of Earth Science courses and one specialised year concentrating on management aspects in Earth Science, interdisciplinary skills and an internship in a company or (non) governmental organisation. Graduates of this track are well equipped to develop a successful career as an applied earth scientist. Such specialists are highly demanded to tackle the challenges of climate change and to translate scientific process knowledge into management strategies in order to lessen the effects for society. What you can expect from Environmental Management at the University of Amsterdam: ?an inspiring scientific environment where scientist work in a stimulating interdisciplinary setting on the cutting edge between physical geography, ecology, hydrology and environmental chemistry, combined in the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) ?IBED offers you a wide range of brand new and state of the art facilities (E-science labs including GIS, Remote sensing and geo-ecological modelling, Soil- and environmental chemistry as well erosion labs) to enable you to let your work meet the latest scientific standards.

Subjects
The research master’s comprises four different topics, offered through separate tracks: computational bio- and physical geography; earth and environmental science; earth surface pocesses.

Objectives
Focus on processes at and near the earth’s surface including the strong feedback between earth and atmosphere on the one hand and biological systems on the other. Human impact on the natural environment is also Incorporated. Students learn how to access, use and develop new knowledge to gain further insight into the earth’s functioning and how to apply this knowledge for the benefit of society.
