Program description

Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies is Research programme in the histories, literatures and cultures of Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and Early Modern Europe and the Middle East.

These disciplines have been brought together in a flexible and attractive Master's programme which combines the strong points of the individual disciplines with the benefits of a multidisciplinary environment. The programme offers four recognizable academic profiles: › Greek and Latin › Ancient History › Medieval and Early Modern History › Languages and Literatures of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance The unique Groningen approach allows you to embed your chosen discipline in wider diachronic or synchronic fields: › Classical Studies (Greek, Latin, Ancient History) › Medieval and Renaissance Studies (Medieval History, English etc…) › Languages and cultures of the older periods (Greek, Latin, English, Romance Languages, Dutch, Hebrew, Arabic) › Pre-modern History (Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern History) This programme offers you a thorough training in the core issues, theories and methods of your own discipline, but it also accustoms you to work in, and draw inspiration from, a challenging multidisciplinary research environment.

Admission requirements

Previous education

Bachelor's degree in any relevant field in the humanities.

Knowledge minimum

Excellent academic record, letter of motivation and letters of recommendation.

Language requirements

IELTS overall band: 7, TOEFL paper based: 620, TOEFL internet based: 105
