Program description

This Master programme studies the complex interaction between Christianity and society: how Christianity influences society and how society has an effect on the teachings and tenets of Christianity.

For two millennia, Christianity and society have been the key protagonists in a dramatic and dynamic interplay. Through frequent clashes and conflicts, they mutually shape and guide each other, with implications for the lives of people everywhere in the world today. The one-year Master's programme in Christianity and Society is your opportunity to delve deeply into this fascinating subject area. Christianity - and other religions - affect politics, economics and culture alike. However, economics, national politics, and international relations have their own laws and logics as well. Artistic and cultural sensitivities are not the same as religious and moral norms. They clash at times, which can cause people to distrust and oppose the public and social positions of the Churches. Also new challenges, like interreligious dialogue in a global world, must be taken up. In this programme you can study these interrelationships from both sides: how Christianity hopes and strives to influence society, and how society often follows different forms of logic and influences Christianity.
