Program description

The Master's in Musicology allows students the freedom to conduct research in their chosen field of study, such as the music of India or the development of modern twentieth century compositions.

The Master's programme Musicology focuses on intercultural music across a wide range of topics, including world music, contemporary expressions of music, western classical music of all periods, theory of music, cognition, cultural musicology, music theory, performance practice, pop and jazz. The programme is aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of one particular area of musicology, and allows participating students the freedom to conduct further research in their chosen field of study, such as the music of India or the development of modern twentieth century compositions.

Admission requirements

Previous education

The Master’s in Musicology is open to all students with a Bachelor’s diploma from the UvA, or a recognised equivalent from another accredited university in:
- Musicology
The level of the Bachelor's diploma from a foreign higher education institution must be equal to three years of Dutch university education (to be judged by the Examinations Board).
