Tilburg University's Master's program in Accounting offers you an unbeatable start to an international career as a financial specialist and a strong foundation for a future general management position.
Gain an in-depth, scientific and practically-relevant understanding of financial and management accounting and other related subjects including corporate financial reporting and auditing during this comprehensive graduate program. A flexible format allows you to develop specialized expertise by following one of three different knowledge tracks.
A Tilburg University's Master's program in Accounting offers you:
- Access to some of Europe's leading business minds, with teaching by international faculty from the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, whose research endeavours are among the most high profile in the world.
- A curriculum that delivers the most relevant concepts, principles and insights from both scientific literature and industry, taught in a way that will help you remember them for years to come.
- A credential respected by employers around the world as an indicator of solid business knowledge and well-developed analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- The opportunity to customise your degree with a specialized track. Choose between the International track, the Professional track (RA/RC) or the Chartered Financial Analysts track (CFA) track.
The professional track (RA/RC) focuses on the set-up and control of external financial reporting with additional core subjects in management accounting, auditing and accounting information systems. Choose between either financial reporting or management accounting within the program’s elective. The Professional Track offers excellent preparation for a range of careers including auditing, tax consulting, management consulting, or as a controller in a company. It is also a stepping stone to the Post-Master's program 'Registeraccountant' (RA - in Dutch; or the international RA program starting in 2013) or the Post-Master's program 'Registercontroller'; (RC - in Dutch).
The CFA Track offers students interested in both accounting and finance the opportunity to acquire the prestigious CFA® qualification (Chartered Financial Analysts Institute). During this track you follow core accounting courses supplemented by finance electives such as investment analysis, and can expect to be adequately prepared to sit the CFA exams upon completion of the program. Subsequent career paths include that of financial analyst and investment banker. Some knowledge of finance (e.g. courses finance 1 and finance 2 or the equivalent in premaster) is required.
The international track allows you to tailor your degree to your own interests while building a global dimension into your education. Choose between management accounting and financial accounting during the first semester, and a selection of internationally-oriented courses amounting to 12 ECTs of course work during the second semester.
Accounting Career Prospects
With a specialization in the professional track (RA/RC) you can choose to start your career as soon as you graduate, or continue expanding your knowledge with additional academic study. Whichever direction you choose, career and study opportunities are abundant.
The professional track qualifies you for a wide range of different roles, including that of a registered accountant ('Registeraccountant') in an audit firm or an international career as a financial controller. You also have a solid foundation from which you can grow into a general management position. Our students go on to pursue successful careers in auditing, controlling, consulting or other industries that require well-trained accountants.
The CFA track delivers world-class preparation for a future career in finance, where you will have the expertise to excel as an equity analyst or credit rating analyst, or in a range of different positions in financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies, rating agencies, or other investor groups.
Because the CFA Track is part of a Tilburg-CFA program partnership, you are also prepared to sit the CFA exam and acquire your CFA qualification. Additional benefits of this partnership include access to CFA-related activities, events, scholarships and resources throughout the program, bringing you significant networking opportunities and access to valuable job leads.
