Program description

This is a unique international BSc programme in drug innovation. You will learn about developing innovative drugs, especially for diseases of the central nervous system and the immune system.

The College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPS) is an Honours variant of the Bachelor's programme farmacie. It's an international college where courses are taught in English. It uniquely focuses on diseases relating to psychological problems and the fact that people now live longer: depression, addiction and dementia. It is multidisciplinary, combining pharmacy, chemistry biology and medicine. You'll be trained for an international research career.

Developing new drugs
"Eight weeks ago Susan was prescribed Paroxetine to treat her depression, but she feels too depressed to go to school today." Why is this drug not effective? Is there an alternative, with fewer side effects? To tackle diseases such as depression effectively, we clearly need better drugs. At the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, you'll learn to develop these new drugs.

Many disciplines
The study programme covers the complete 'drug pipeline' from discovery of new drugs to development and testing of new drugs in patients. To develop a new drug, many disciplines come together, such as biomedical sciences, chemistry and pharmacy.

Difference with Pharmacy
The College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a variant of Pharmacy. Pharmacy deals with diseases in the human body and the best way to educate patients about drugs (mainly in a drugstore). The CPS focuses on doing research related to drug discovery and development.

Objectives
The CPS uniquely focuses on diseases of the central nervous and immune systems (in the field of drug discovery and development in Europe).

Instruction modes
The CPS created a research and project-based learning environment. By working in a group on scientific problems you will learn to use the disciplines and theories of pharmaceutical science to find creative solutions. You will also develop skills in ‘problem-shooting’, cooperation and communication. We will coach you and help you become part of a scientific community.
