Program description

When you study art history, you study questions such as: Why does an artist design an art object like this? How is it that the appreciation of art can differ so greatly in every age?

Students of art history study the works of art and buildings that have been made throughout the ages. How did art evolve? Why were there changes in form? You will make an academic and theoretical study of industrial arts and architecture, painting and sculpture. You will investigate the style, the material, the composition, the techniques, and the social context in which the works of art were made. This programme specifically highlights the artistic manifestations and culture of the western world. After the three-year Bachelor's programme, you will transfer to the one-year Master's programme in Art History. Specializations: Medieval Art History Art History of the Early-Modern Period Art History of the Modern Period Classical Archaeology Provincial Roman Archaeology (Tought in Dutch)
