Program description
Designed for urban professionals with at least 3 years of working or reseaching experience, this course, offers the opportunity to refresh and update knowledge on urban management and development in 8 different specializations.
The modules of the master program guarantee the academic depth of the study, while at the same time complementary activities of more practical focus are build in the program to link the learning to your own work environment. In addition participants can tailor the study programme to their own needs and interest by choosing elective courses from the master programme in urban management and development. This will enable participants to complete the master program at a later date. The programme provides an excellent opportunity to review and further develop your professional skills as an urban manager.

Applicants have to select one of the following 6 specialisations in offer:
- Managing and Financing Urban Infrastructure
- Integrated Planning and Strategies
- Urban Housing and Livelihoods
- Urban Land Development
- Urban Environmental Management and Climate Change
- Urban Competitiveness and Resilience
In the Housing and Urban Development course, we offer the opportunity to join two courses of the specialisation period of the master programme: one course in the specialisation of your choice, and one course chosen from the other specializations in offer, allowing you to tailor the study program to your own needs and interest.

Since 2004, the Lincoln Institute has collaborated with IHS on urban land issues. Master-level and short-term international courses on land policy and management are jointly organized.
About the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies
The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) is an international centre of excellence of the School of Economics (ESE) and the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. IHS operates on a global scale by offering postgraduate education, training, advisory services and applied research.
IHS was selected as the winner for the 2007 UN-HABITAT Scroll of Honour Award for leading the way as a global center of excellence and knowledge through its high quality training programmes in housing, urban management and urban environmental management and planning.
In 2008 IHS celebrated its 50th anniversary of assisting countries, cities and institutions to find suitable approaches to housing and sustainable urban development, and strengthen their capacity to implement them.
