Program description

The International Biomedical Engineering program involves applying engineering solutions in health care and its related industry.

You will learn to design and develop applications that, literally, come in contact with people. These relate to surgical equipment, biomedical instrumentation and orthopedic devices (function restoration equipment). Biomedical Engineers find work in Research & Development departments of companies, in prototyping and production preparation, and in related areas such as: testing, application, marketing, purchasing and logistics. Biomedical engineers are also employed by academic hospitals and universities.

International Biomedical Engineering Program Content

The International Biomedical Engineering program consists of two clusters: Fundamental Design of a Heart-Support Pump and Design Optimization of an Extendable Endoprosthesis. The second semester is dedicated to a final project focusing on a biomedical/medical topic, which you will complete in an appropriate industrial environment, academic hospital, or research centre. The first three weeks will be an intensive programme and there will be several additional excursions as well.

During this program you will participate in a group of students from various countries, including the Netherlands, and with diverse cultural backgrounds.
