Program description
The course will guide participants through a large range of possible application areas of geo-information in urban planning and management, using case studies from real municipal spatial database.
The course gives an overview of a large range of application areas of geo-information science (GIS) for urban planning and management. It is showing examples of the use of geo-information techniques for effective task execution and problem solving in urban areas. It addresses the exhaustive spatial information need to better plan, monitor and evaluate for rapidly developing urban areas.
The course will guide participants through a large range of possible application areas of geo-information in urban planning and management, using case studies from real municipal spatial database.
The main course starts then with an overview of urban planning and management (UPM); which subsequently will be complemented with insights from recent professional and scientific developments in urban planning and management in specific areas (urban growth; infrastructure, transport and services; urban poverty). The main part of the course will give an overview of application areas of GIS, remote sensing and databases in urban planning and management. The majority of time will be spent in exploring application example of GIS within the case studies/exercises provided for the course.
