Program description
At Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation(CDI)we work on processes of innovation and change in the areas of food security, adaptive agriculture, sustainable markets and ecosystem governance.
The Centre for Development Innovation facilitates innovation, brokers knowledge and develops capacities with a focus on food systems, rural development, agri-business and the management of natural resources. Our work links Wageningen UR's knowledge and expertise with processes of society-wide learning and innovation. In the search for solutions to poverty, hunger, climate change and environmental degradation, 'business as usual' is not an option. A sustainable and equitable future demands markets with a triple bottom line that balance the needs of People, Planet and Profit. Linking technological and institutional innovation becomes critical. Such innovation calls for citizens, governments, businesses, NGOs and the scientific community to work together in new ways.
Objectives
Participants will have full understanding of climate change adaptation and governance. They are able to effectively and meaningfully contribute to the debate on climate change adaptation, either in the policy process and or in providing knowledge to the policy process. They will strengthen their positions in these processes on the basis of newly acquired concepts, skills and methodologies.
Instruction modes
The course uses interactive training methods. Subjects are conducted in a combination of lectures, plenary and group work, study assignments and role plays. Experiences of participants are the entry point for interaction. The course includes field work for vulnerability assessment and interaction with policy makers to discuss and refine strategies for policy development and programming.
Sustainable strengthening
All courses of Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation are aimed for mid career professionals. During the course participants develop their individual action plans in which they describe activities to improve their role and functioning within their organisation during the first year after completing the course.
