This specialization aims to equip urban professionals with the latest insights and skills in urban and environmental management and to enable them identify and analyze environmental problems as well as to successfully manage sustainable urban development.
The MSc in Urban Management & Development: Urban Environmental Management aims to equip urban professionals with the latest insights and skills to identify and analyze environmental problems and to manage sustainable urban development.
The core of the master analyses Urban Development Challenges and Management Solutions. This specialization focuses on Sustainable Urban Management; Environmental Impact Assessments; Municipal and Corporate Environmental Management; Integrated Infrastructure Provision. An optional module can be selected on Urban and Regional Development Strategies, Social Development, or Housing.
Urban Environmental Management Course Content
The MSc in Urban Management & Development: Urban Environmental Management consists of lectures, group work, site-visits, self study & case work. The program offers a professional mixture of theoretical & empirical material with an emphasis on comparative analysis of international experiences in urban environmental & Infrastructure management. Participants will conduct research & write their thesis, non-compulsory in their home country, within the Urban Environment & Infrastructure Management specialization.

The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) is an international centre of excellence of the School of Economics (ESE) and the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
