Program description

The Master of Business Administration program is targeted at business professionals who want to become tomorrow’s leaders and managers, and who are looking for a comprehensive education on business management in a global context.

The Master of Business Administration program aims to integrate the main business processes of organizations into effective and efficient corporate strategy. Students learn to deal with the diverse and sometimes diverging interests of various stakeholders involved in international business. The program prepares graduates for senior and general management positions.

The Master of Business Administration program focuses on leadership and management in a (inter)national context, and is spread out over three semesters, starting in September each year and ending in November of the following academic year. The first two semesters are characterized by course work and the third semester focuses on undertaking applied research in a business context.

Hanze's educational concept is characterized by small group sizes, and intensive contact between students and staff. Next to lectures and workshops, students work in teams as well as individually on practice-based and experience-based projects and case studies. Our teaching staff is selected to ensure a interesting mixture of business experience and expertise in applied research.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program Objectives

The MBA program trains students to develop new skills and strategies to integrate the main business processes of organizations into effective and efficient corporate strategy. They learn to deal with the diverse and sometimes diverging interests of various stakeholders involved in international business.It is our mission to educate our students to become responsible managers who are accountable for the consequences of their ideas, actions and behavior.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Study Subjects

The Master of Business Administration at Hanze University comprises the following subjects:

Semester One

The first year of the MBA program begins with a short introduction to the programme and to the city of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, its facilities, and the MBA staff. Following the introduction, the following courses are offered:

  • Marketing Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Personal Development & Leadership
  • Strategic Management
  • Financial Management & Accounting
  • Operations Management

Semester Two

In the second semester of the MBA program students deal with more complex, inter-related management issues in their second year. Acting as a consultant to a company, they will solve a real-life international business problem. Students are offered electives for focus on a particular topic of interest. The following courses are included:

  • Business Research Methods
  • Innovation & Entrepreneurship
  • Intercultural Competences in Business
  • Integrative Project
  • Elective 
  • Thesis

Instruction modes
Our educational concept is characterized by small group sizes, and intensive contact between students and staff. Next to lectures and workshops, students work in teams as well as individually on practice-based and experience-based projects and case studies. Students interact with the world of practice through guest lectures by entrepreneurs, senior business executives and knowledge experts, seminars and company visits.
