Program description
The Research Master's programme Artistic Research seeks to form a bridge between art and standard scholarly research by offering insight into and training in new forms of research.
These new forms provide an alternative to existing approaches, stressing applied, practical research as opposed to fundamental, theoretical research. The Research Master's in Artistic Research takes an experimental approach to both specific art objects and broader artistic concepts and opens them up to interpretation. Topics and strategies relevant for current scholarly debates and contemporary artistic practice form core components of the programme. The University of Amsterdam's (UvA) research programme Artistic Research is unique in the Netherlands, providing an alternative to the at times artificial opposition between professional art training and academic programmes for the study of art in the Netherlands. This research programme reflects the flourishing practice of national and international research in the arts.
