Program description
Students learn to manage living resources in all types of water bodies, natural or man-made. The programme provides understanding of the biology and ecology of aquatic organisms and water bodies.
Everywhere around us there is water in which plants and animals live. The MSc programme Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management deals with the management of aquatic organisms in aquatic ecosystems for the production of food as well as for nature conservation or recreation. You are interested in the welfare and management of living organisms in aquatic ecosystem such as fishes, algae, crustaceans and shellfishes. You will become a specialist in fields such as food production, recreation, nature conservation, aquarium systems or a combination of these fields. You will develop a thorough understanding of the fundamental biological and ecological processes of aquatic ecosystems and the organisms living in it. You will get familiar with techniques and methods for analyzing and solving technical and biological problems in aquatic ecosystems. The acquired skills and knowledge enable you to develop and manage aquaculture or fisheries systems sustainably, to contribute to nature conservation or recreation in water-rich areas or regions, and to provide advice on keeping aquatic plants and animals in aquaria.
