Program description
The program physiotherapy is a paramedical study, which students like because knowledge and skills from divers disciplines are combined.
The main goal from this course is to create students who have the abilities which are nescesary to perform tasks and activities which are linked to the profession. The basic line from the program is to bring those tasks and activities in practice. The profession profile of the physiotherapist describes the various roles of the physiotherapist: the physiotherapist as a social worker, the physiotherapist as a manager and the physiotherapist as a developer of the profession.
The education is organised in periods of 10 weeks. In these periods various physiotherapist skills will be offered. The first year is based on the authentic problem situations out of the physiotherapy practice. It’s on a basic level, clustered according to body regions: the lower extremity, upper extremity and the torso. During the program there is a build up to more complex problems, in the second year for example organ pathologies and central neurological disorders. The skills as a developer of the profession and a entrepreneur are build up the same way, from basic to more complex problems.
Students improve their practical skills by ‘out of school learning’ periods and internships in physiotherapy practices.
Internships
In the third and fourth year of the program you will go to physiotherapy practices. You’ll have an internship at two or three different institutions and workplaces, with possibilities to have an internship abroad. For the internships you can choose to work at a private practice, nursing home or hospital. You can also go abroad to places like India, Australia and Europe.
Bachelor thesis
You will have to write a thesis to profile yourself and broaden and deepen your skills.
You can also broaden and deepen your knowledge by attending a minor, you can choose your own education: specific physiotherapeutic topics (spine and energetic therapy), management in the health care system or internationalisation.
Special activities
During the entire program there’s time to do special activities you can choose yourself and which fit in your personal and professional development. This can be for example assisting handicapped athletes or help younger students, but also making an assignment about paediatric physiotherapy.
