Program description
The International Communication major is a 4 year programme which will prepare you for an (international) career in communication.
At Hanze you will study communication in an international context, from an intercultural perspective. During the International Communication major you will be challenged to think critically and learn how to plan and implement communication strategies in an international context. You will obtain the knowledge and skills needed to research, analyse and respond to issues crucial to communication. As a graduate you will be ready for an international career in the world of communication, in such fields as: public relations, corporate communication and public affairs in both the public and private sector.
International Communication Program Content
The International Communication bachelor is a four-year program. The first two years are divided into eight periods of ten weeks. Each ten-week period includes a project or integrated assignment that focuses on a theme. The subjects offered during the period provide you with the theoretical and practical tools you need to successfully complete the project. The first two years, referred to as the core program, consists of subjects such as: professional orientation, intercultural communication theory and competence, media skills (DTP, Photoshop, video production, Indesign), communication campaigns, marketing and research skills.
The core communication program (2 years) comprises of subjects such as: professional orientation, (intercultural) communication theory and competence, marketing, economics, English for communication professionals, media skills, communication campaigns, and research skills. The last 2 years you will follow a more personal route. In year 3 you will go abroad for an internship and study abroad. The 4th year is divided into 2 semesters: one devoted to your specialisation and the other to your final project. Graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Communication, major International Communication.
International Communication Honors Program
For the very best International Communication students, Hanze University has started an honors program that will challenge them even further. You to work in a multidisciplinary team on research and innovative assignments of leading businesses and organizations. Since the program is situated in Groningen, we will seek clients that operate from Groningen, for example Groningen's City of Talent Marketing project, Energy Valley, the internationally recognized Project on Healthy Ageing, and more. You can acquire and organize your own assignment or step into projects acquired by the school in contacts with companies and organizations. These could be the City Council of Groningen, Provincial Council, Gasunie, Groningen Seaport, UMCG (city hospital) and other renowned institutes and companies. Whatever you do, it should fit in with your own ambition and motivation. By taking part you can share your talent and move the world.
