Bachelor and master programs offered by Universities of Applied Sciences will result in a professional degree. PhD programs are only offered by research universities and in some cases by institutes for international education.

PhD programs will usually take 4 years to complete and lead to an official PhD or Doctoral degree. There are several ways in which you can study for a PhD diploma. Some universities offer a fixed program that takes 4 years to complete, consisting of course work and research assignments. Other universities offer PhD tracks that include teaching assignments. If this is the case a salary is given to the PhD student.
