Bachelor degree programs in the Netherlands (also known as undergraduate degree programs) can be followed after completion of high school. Bachelor programs consist of a range of separate courses. For each course you will need to do an exam, which will grant you a number of credits (ECTS). In order to graduate you will need to have earned all the ECTS credits.
Admission to bachelor degree programs depends on a set of criteria, such as: the marks or grades on your high school diploma and an English language test.

Bachelor degree programs offered by Research Universitie in the Netherlands
take 3 years to complete and consist of 180 ECTS credits. During your bachelor degree program you have the possibility to study abroad for a semester or do an internship at a firm. A bachelor degree program is concluded by writing bachelor thesis on a scientific topic related to your degree program. You will earn an officially accredited BA, BSc. or LLB diploma.
You will need to have obtained your bachelor degree in order to continue with a master degree program.
Bachelor degree programs offered by Universities of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands
take 4 years to complete and consist of 240 ECTS credits. During your bachelor degree you will have to do an internship for which you have to write a final report. In some cases you will need to write a bachelor thesis. Upon completion of a bachelor degree program you will earn a professional bachelor degree. A bachelor program in Business Studies will lead to a Bachelor of Business Studies diploma.
Students who have obtained a bachelor degree often have to take several pre-master courses in order to study a master degree program
at a Research University.
Bachelor degree programs offered by Institutes for International Education in the Netherlands
also take 3 years to complete. The bachelor degree consists of 180 ECTS credits and is concluded by writing a thesis on a topic of your choice. Institutes for international education mostly have the same status as research universities. You will therefore earn an accredited BA, BSc or LLB diploma.
A bachelor degree will in most cases by sufficient for entering into a master degree program.
For admission to bachelor degree programs you will be asked to submit the following documents:
A copy of your secondary school or high school diploma
An English Language Proficiency Test Score: IELTS 6.0 (overall) or TOEFL 80
A letter of motivation, stating why you want to take that particular bachelor program In some cases you will need a letter of recommendation from your high school principal
